MG Baby (Maci Grace) Cloth Diaper Review

Babyhalfoff.com sent us an MG (Maci Grace) pocket diaper to review.

My first impressions were that I:
* Love the rainbow snaps on the black
*The inners are made of Super Soft Fleece. I prefer this material for the inners for the stay dry feel it provides my babies.
*It came with two 4 layer bamboo inserts.
*It snaps down to a tiny size.
* The wing tabs can snap criss-crossed

The colorful snaps as described above.
The super soft inner along with the two 4-layer bamboo inserts.
A picture of the MG Baby tabs criss-crossed which allow for a great fit for a skinny baby. I have not come across this feature in other snapping cloth diapers. But as a Mom to a long and lean girl, I can appreciate this capability.
This is the MG Baby diaper completed snapped to the smallest settings.  The tiny size coupled with the trim bamboo insert should make MG Baby a a one size diaper that could truly be used from newborn on up.
The first thing I did was prep the bamboo inserts by boiling them for 20 minutes.  I then washed and dried them. I have never used bamboo so I was excited to see how it would preform for my 9 month super soaker.

Once prepped, Brooke was ready to put MG Baby to the test.  Since I have never used bamboo before I decided to try it with both inserts. And even with both inserts in, the diaper had an ultra trim fit.  There should not be any issues with bulkiness or MG Baby not fitting under jeans. I was most impressed with the fact that Brooke wore this diaper for 4 hours straight and not a single leak or bit of dampness on the outside of the diaper.  In fact, when I took off her MG Baby and pulled out the inserts to check the absorbency, the back 1/4 of both inserts were still dry.  I could not believe that after that long the inserts were not completely saturated.  This heavy wetting baby and Mom duo can not wait to get our hands on some more of these awesome MG Baby diapers!

Confessions of cloth diapering?

I have a dirty little secret. I am using cloth diapers. It began as a money saving venture. But, it has quickly turned into an addiction. I mean have you seen these things? Check out the photo below. Have you ever been super excited to run out and buy a package of disposable diapers? I get super excited every time I get my hands on a new "fluffy butt" (what we affectionately call cloth diapers in our home). I need to confess, I live in an area where it is not common to cloth diaper. In fact, as an active participant in my city of 25,000 I only know two families who are currently using cloth diapers. TWO! There are zero cloth diaper stores in my neck of the woods. So, everything I have managed to learn about cloth diapering I have done through research or trial and error. I don't claim to be an expert. I am a novice at best. But, I'm inviting you along on this journey as I try to figure out the ins and outs of this cloth diapering world.

Rag curl tutorial

1. Start with wet hair that is combed out.
2. Pick the syling product of your choice and put in hair.
3. Take strips of cloth.  I didn't have any rhyme or reason to the length or width of the strips of cloth I had.  Start with the strip of cloth at the bottom of your section of hair.  With the strip of cloth positioned horizontally, start rolling it up the section of hair.  At the top of the section of hair tie the strip of cloth in a knot.  Have your model sleep in the rag curls overnight.
Then send your cute model to soccer the next morning for picture day.  That is one for the scrapbook :)
When it is time to take out the rags just untie the knots and unroll.

Style as you wish :)

Will my financial sacrifices payoff for my kids?

money cashI'm not going to lie to you vowing to live a debt free lifestyle is hard work.  And yesterday was no exception.  I threw myself a pity party.  Oh, yes I did! A little background here.  In April 2011, after two years of paying down debt my husband and I became debt free other than our mortgage. No credit card payments, no car loan, no student loan, nothing.

Ever since becoming debt free, Murphy has decided to take up permanent residence in our house.  First, a van, then a dryer, a hard drive, a recliner, a couch and most recently a grill and now MY LAPTOP. Through it all we have prevailed.  For 10 months we made due with one vehicle to transport 4 kids to and from school and other activities.  One vehicle to take a Daddy to work and meetings everyday.  And one vehicle to take a mommy expecting baby #5 back and forth from doctor's appointments.

For months we strung up two Dollar Tree clotheslines in our basement in the middle of a Minnesota winter to dry clothes for a family of six.  We made due under both of these circumstances until we managed to pay cash for a new vehicle and dryer.

That brings us to present date.  We currently have no furniture in our living room, It is grilling season in our beloved Minnesota and we are forced to grill indoors on a George Foreman grill.  And, I struggle to write and perform other computer tasks on a painfully slow and archaic laptop.

It would be so easy to give up and charge something on credit.  Come on we deserve it, right?  It's the American way.  Just imagine the instant gratification it would bring (at least until the next billing cycle).

Come, on Heidi!  What would going back into debt solve?  It would make all those times you sacrificed sleep by staying up until 2:00 am or waking up well before the crack of dawn to answer P90X infomercial calls or enter one more magazine order for nothing.  This is a marathon and not a sprint.  And if I can't exercise good judgement, restraint and patience how can I expect my children to do the same?  I just need to dig a little deeper and find more strength to keep the momentum moving.  I may not be the fastest one in the race, but I've got determination on my side.

So Murphy I accept your challenge.  I will find the the strength to overtake you.  And, I will strive to model the behavior I want my children to acquire.  Because as Dave Ramsey says, "I am living like no one else, so later I can live like no one else."
